Life in the Quad By Jade Lewis

Life in the quad is truly wonderful and green, but can we sustain that great image of it? The quad is slowly becoming filled with cigarette buds and trash from food stands. This has the potential to destroy the green scenery of the quad, and sustainability will most definitely need to be a factor to counter this situation.

Key Questions

1. The best example of sustainable practices were the amounts of recycling bins and trash bins in almost every corner of the quad. There are also environmentalists whom try to persuade you to join their organization to better the awareness of keeping the community clean.

2The worst examples of non-sustainable practices were the amounts of cigarette buds found on the ground, as well as trash AROUND trash cans, that people seemed too lazy to dispose of.

3. An long term solution would be having no smoking signs in the Quad, due to the amount of pollution and trash build up there is. It's one of the only reasonable resorts.  Also a short term solution would be  the environmentalists in the quad, doing more to raise awareness rather than just trying to recruit. They could have various activities that gain attention and make them more relevant.

4. To raise awareness, I would just let people know how the community is around us, and how it truly affects everyone. It would be slightly difficult, but I just think if people see other groups of students besides the ones "environmentalist organization" cleaning up, than there's a better chance that others would follow.
